Generational Gathering, etc.

It was a busy weekend for Emily.  We went to the home of her ancestors, Elwood, IN, for a celebration of life for her great-great-uncle Dick.  While there, we capitalized on opportunities for some pictures of the extended family.

Four generations.  Rita, Theresa, Sara, and Emily.
Christy stopped in and was nice enough to pose for a photo opp.

It's a baby!!

Our day finally arrived.  Well, our hours finally arrived.  Last Saturday, May 5th, Sara woke up feeling "bad".  I'll spare you the details.  But, after waiting for a bit and walking around and taking a shower to see if it helped, she finally called the doctor to see what their opinion was of her symptoms.  Turns out, it was labor.  We went to the hospital, flew through triage, and were admitted.  Sara was in labor for a full 12 hours when all was said and done.  However, she got an epidural before they started the pitocin, so it probably wasn't as bad as it could have been.  Around 2 in the morning, she started pushing and they summoned the on-call doctor.  At 3:13, Emily Anne was born.

For those about to rock...

After installing hundreds, if not thousands of child seats for testing, I finally got to put that skill to good use for myself (I have, of course, installed seats for others, most recently for Miss Not Appearing In This Blog).  Interestingly, I wound up having to look something up... Because the back seat in my car is a 60/40 split, the LATCH bars are oddly spaced.  But, just like a good seat installation technician, I referred to the car's owner's manual to verify the correct position.  The end product is a seat that's offset a couple of inches to the driver's side of the car, but still fundamentally in the center (the safest place in the car) and with LATCH.  Just given the real estate required in my car, I suspect it's going to be a tight fit in Sara(h)'s car.

Child seat installed

Sara(h) had her scheduled doctor appointment yesterday.  Things are progressing, albeit slowly (I'll spare the details).  The official due date is on Tuesday... If there's no baby by Thursday, then they will discuss inducing.  It's going to be a real odd week for me.  I have a lot to do at work and at home and have no idea how much will actually get done since I have no idea when the baby will show up.  But, that's small potatoes compared to what Sara(h) is dealing with, so I'll just keep my mouth shut.

In the meantime, we're working toward having the house as absolutely ready for the baby as possible.  Sara(h) has been working her tail off to have things clean and organized, from the baby's room to the temporary Corner of Baby in our bedroom (where she will presumably reside for the first month or two or however long it takes).

Getting closer!

Since my last post, we completed the child birthing class at Community North. Per the name tags, Sara(h) was there four times. Accompanying her, in order of appearance (four week class) were Dr. Robert Oppenheimer, Tyler Durden, Hunter S. Thompson, and Dr. Cliff Huxtable. We learned quite a bit, got to see some exciting video, and another guy in the class and I made a ton of smart-ass comments. Fun was had by all. Well, at least two of us.

Until last Friday, the baby's room looked "like a baby shower exploded all over it" according to the wife. Luckily, our friend Windi and her baby, Miss Not Appearing In This Blog, came over and helped turn it into a functional and organized space for a baby. And maybe some parents who are trying to keep the baby from crying every 30 seconds. So, here are some pictures.

She'll undoubtedly be a little perturbed that I posted this, but here's a picture of Sara(h) in front of the crib.

The official due date for the baby is two weeks from today. Place your bets now on whether or not we'll make it that far. But, all the baby showers are completed and the house is as ready as it's probably going to get before the baby shows up.

Baby's Room

After spending her entire life in SL's uterus, Baby Saul has decided that she wants her own room. As a result, we have begun the task of moving her into said room. What's a little odd is that she has never actually seen all of her things, but we're trying to get it all organized in a way she'll appreciate anyway. For posterity, here are some pictures.

The glider surrounded by stuff.

Her dresser/changing table. Bought it out in Brownsburg at an unfinished furniture place (props to my sister for recommending it, as well as my mother in-law). I slapped on a few coats of polyurethane and we're good to go.

Leo the cat is a bit perplexed by everything that's happening. Oh, if he only knew the hell that's to follow for him. He'll probably go for HOURS without being picked up and cuddled. Poor kitty.

Current Children

Fluffy the fish.

Leo the cat.

These are what pass as our current offspring. We have a fish that... um... Does fish stuff. The cat annoys the Wife and generates feces for the trash. Well, he does that when he's not shedding.

The baby is due in four weeks. Until then, it's mostly panic as we try to prepare. Lots of stuff left to do... We don't have a functional crib, lack child care, don't know what a baby actually costs... But it will all work itself out.

First Post

This is my first post. No pictures yet, but once the baby comes, I'll post pictures here.
